The Standard

The Standard is a Hong Kong English language business newspaper which is published by Sing Tao Media Holdings Ltd., which is also the publisher of Sing Tao Daily. It in turn is owned by Global China Group Holdings which has great diversity of business including the Human capital management and the Broadband services. In the heyday of internet bubble, the name of Hong Kong Standard was temporarily changed to iMail.

The Standard belongs to the pro-China style among the newspapers of Hong Kong, the reporting methods and comments are relatively traditional.

The Standard has an edition for students called the Student Standard. Besides news, it also contains academic material for learning. There are also cartoons, word games and occasionally some competitions to stimulate students' interest in learning English. The vocabulary is designed for secondary-school level comprehension. It is easiler for students to understand the content compared to other student post available in the market. This makes it quite popular among teenagers as many students can subscribe it through their schools. Teachers may also use it as teaching materials.

Since 1994, the Sing Tao Newspaper Group established the "Leader of the Year" Award to recognize the achievements of outstanding Hong Kong leaders who has make excellent contributions to Hong Kong economically and socially.
