Thomas Enqvist is a professional tennis player. He has played on the ATP circuit since turning pro in 1991. He was quickly touted as the only Swede who could follow in the footsteps of Stefan Edberg and Björn Borg. A hard server and baseline player, his inconsistent performance - particularly on clay courts - prevented him from reaching the top of the rankings. His highest ranking was #4,attained in 1997. Enqvist's current ranking is 66th in the world.

He has been a force on the Swedish Davis Cup team. In 1997, Enqvist helped Sweden reach the finals of the Davis Cup for the 4th time in the past four years. Sweden, however, has still yet to win a Davis Cup title.

Throughout his entire career, Enqvist finished in the top 10 four times and won at least one ATP title for six consecutive years. In 1998 he underwent surgery in Stockholm to remove a small piece of bone from his right foot that had bothered him. In addition, Enqvist also underwent surgery on his right shoulder to repair a repititive strain injury. Since his surgeries, Enqvist has posted some impressive victories, including one over Pete Sampras, Juan Ferrero , and Andy Roddick. His injuries and inconsistencies, though, have kept him from reaching his potential. As of 2004, Thomas Enqvist has posted a record of 439-280 in singles and has won 19 singles titles and 1 doubles title.
