Tirunelveli
Tirunelveli is a city located on the banks of river Thamirabarani in Tamilnadu. It is also the headquarters of the district with the same name. The city also goes by the name Nellai. Nellayappar temple, a famous temple of the Hindu god Shiva is situated here. The river contains traces of copper, hence its name(Thambaram means copper in Tamil).There are lot of sculptures in and on the various temples. The district is known for its paddy fields. The great Tamil Poet Mahakavi Subramanya Bharathi is from this district. He composed poems foreseeing India's freedom. He wrote many articles on many subjects. He also wrote about the unity of India inspite of its varirty in languages, religion and cultures.The city is also famous for its special type of Halwa sweet.
