Trastevere
Trastevere (from trans Tiberim meaning "over the Tiber") is a neighborhood in Rome on the west bank of the Tiber, south of the Vatican City. It was not originally a part of Rome, and from the time of the Republic it was inhabited mainly by Jews and Syrians and was incorporated into Rome by Augustus as the fourteenth administrative district.
