Tray

A tray is a shallow container designed for carrying things. Trays are flat, but with raised edges to stop things from sliding off of them. They are often rectangular, and may or may not have handles with which to carry them.

An example of a tray is a tea tray (or "tea-tray"), which is used to carry cups of tea. The poem "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Bat!", which appears in the children's book Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, suggests that the bat is "like a tea-tray in the sky".

In horticulture, trays are used for propagating vegetables and flowers from seed. The trays for seedling production are made of expanded polysterene or polythene. They come in many sizes; the most common are the Danish and the European sized trays.
