USS Saratoga
Six United States Navy ships have borne the name Saratoga, after the important Battle of Saratoga in the American Revolutionary War.
- The second Saratoga was a corvette built on Lake Champlain for service in the War of 1812.
- The third Saratoga was a sloop-of-war commissioned 1843 and served until 1888.
- The fifth Saratoga (CV-3) was the third aircraft carrier of the Navy, commissioned in 1927 and active in World War II.
- The sixth Saratoga (CV-60) was also an aircraft carrier, commissioned 1952, decommissioned 1994 and proposed to become a museum ship (see www.saratogamuseum.org).
In the Star Trek fictional universe, USS Saratoga (NCC-31911) was a type three Miranda class starship in Starfleet. Formerly a ship Benjamin Sisko served on, Saratoga was destroyed by the Borg at the Battle of Wolf 359.
