Union Station (Portland)
Union Station is a train station on the west shore of the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon.
Construction began in 1890. It was built by Northern Pacific Railway at a cost of $300,000. It was opened on February 14, 1896.
The signature piece of the structure is the 150 ft. tall clock tower. A "Go By Train" neon sign was added later on.
In the 1980s ownership was transferred to the Portland Development Commission. Shortly after the new ownership took place, Union Station underwent a renovation. It was rededicated in 1996.
