Universal City, California

Universal City is the 415 acre property of Universal Studios in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles County, California. Approximately 70% is in an unincorporated area of the county surrounded by the City of Los Angeles, and the remaining area is in the city itself[1]. It continues to be home to Universal Studios. Located here are the 36-floor 10 Universal Plaza (offices for Universal and NBC), the Sheraton Universal, the Universal Hilton, Universal Studios Hollywood (the theme park), Universal Citywalk (a shopping and entertainment center), Universal Amphitheatre (host to concerts and other events), and Universal's studios, sets, and lots. A Metro Rail station is located across the street from the 10 Universal Plaza building, the Universal City station of the Red Line.

History

Universal City was founded by Carl Laemmle as a 230 acre (0.9 km²) ranch dedicated to movie-making.
