Re: Abortion link

Hi; I'm sorry to say, but I'm not well versed in the subject and would feel uncomfortable writing any new content for the article. As for the abortionbreastcancer.com link, I think it's very inappropriate; it is included as an in-line referencial link to an already referenced statement by the Lancet which disproves a connection between abortion and breast cancer. The National Cancer Institute also disproves such a connection. I've never heard of a reliable, objective study which proves such a connection. (Disclaimer: I'm rather liberal in my politics, and thus pro-choice. I don't think abortion is a good thing, and I don't think most other pro-choicers do either; we simply believe it's a choice that rests between the mother and whatever belief system she subscribes to, and the state should have no part in it. So even if there were a risk of breast cancer, it's still the mother's prerogative.)

As for the "ABC connection" itself, you're free to write about it if you wish; keep in mind our neutrality policy of course, and for such a controversial subject, it'd be best to provide solid citations for all claims. I can't guarantee it won't be edited mercilessly or removed entirely, of course (not by me). We also have a "no original research" policy which would preclude anything not covered in a primary source (Wikipedia is meant to be a secondary source). So, editor beware. ;)

Regarding Dr. Joel Brind, I don't think he's as objective as you think: he's a self-described born-again Christian who has stated that he "[feels] compelled to use science for its noblest, life-saving purpose." [1] So, he has one hefty axe to grind, which has put him "completely at odds with his peers" (same link). He's on the fringe, and it seems only layman pro-life advocates actually support his research. Personally, I wouldn't cite him to back up anything on this subject.

To answer your last question: Abortion gets far less vandalism than, say, Wikipedia:Community Portal or either US Presidential candidates' articles. Even so, none of these articles are protected as a matter of course; this would be contrary to the "wiki way", where only high risk pages (e.g. policy pages, the main page, heavily-used templates, etc.) are protected indefinitely. If there's an edit war or a massive vandalism attack on the abortion article, it is protected temporarily. These protections usually span less than a week, because it's a last resort. Articles should be editable by everyone; with enough dedicated users watching, vandalism doesn't go unnoticed for long, and would certainly be fixed quickly on such a high profile article. (On the other hand, in the case of abortionbreastcancer.com, the link should have been removed or at the very least repositioned long ago.)

Hope this answers your questions satisfactorily. If there's anything else, please feel free to contact me again. Hijacking Catastrophe

Hey, I'm a big fan of that Jaynes book too. It's one of those intriguing theories (if I can use that word) that cannot possibly be disproved and just could be right. I have the feeling the page on the documentary will be deleted though, or at least will occasion a vote. "Non-notable" will be the cry. But I notice that another recent change is a page on an episode of South Park! Maybe you could expand the article into something a bit broader, a piece on post-9/11 dissenting opinions? Now that would be well worth reading. There was a BBC doco recently on the same subject. I think it was called Manufacturing Terror. If you don't know it, maybe you'd like to google it. There's a review, I know, on [the Guardian's site]. Dr Zen 07:04, 28 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Dundas, Ontario

Thanks for your edits to Dundas, Ontario; I wasn't aware of the West Wing connection and it's interesting. Are you from Dundas originally? I'm just curious, as I'm from there myself, though I now live in Waterloo. --Saforrest 23:43, Dec 9, 2004 (UTC)

Re: Presidential Purple

I don't know if there's an "efficient" way to look for when it was removed from the article. The only way I can think of is to scroll through the history of the page. — J3ff 05:20, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Christmas or Whatever

Thank you for the excellent work you did on my navigation bar. I hope you have a great Christmas or Whatever. --Tony Sidaway|Talk 20:47, 24 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Abortion history

I created the redirect because the page didn't have any real content yet. Since you're still working on it, I've reverted the page. I don't know what lost links you are referring to, though; the article only had two (20th century and developing world). —tregoweth 06:18, Jan 11, 2005 (UTC)

No problem. You could have reverted it as well; we both have the same amount of power here. :) —tregoweth 06:23, Jan 11, 2005 (UTC)
Yeah :')... I was working on External links. It was my fault really... I should have pasted prior to copying something else. Oh well, I hadn't found many yet. Hopefully with help the article will shape up prior to being labeled an ugly duckling. - RoyBoy [] 06:24, 11 Jan 2005 (UTC)

David Carnegie

Sorry about squashing your unit and spacing edits. I appreciate you taking it with good humour.

I felt kind of bad reverting so many of your links, but the truth is: the so-called Lakes are just saltpans in the middle of nowhere, Western Australia is so flat that every insignificant little hill gets called a Mount, and the people mentioned would be unknown to history except for their minor relationships with Carnegie.

Keep up the good work. Drew Devereux 01:53, 18 Jan 2005 (UTC)

800x600

Hi RoyBoy, I notice you edited my post to the [[Huygens } Huygens Probe]] article. I have no objection to the edit at all, I am just looking to learn more. You mentioned 800x600 compliance. What is that, please? This was my first attempt to upload an image and place it in an article. I want to make sure I am following all the relevant guidelines for future postings. Thanks. A note on your edits

Hi - I just wanted to ask that whenever you make an edit, even a minor one, please put a summary. Thanks! Mikeage 19:28, 24 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the kind words

You're very generous with your praise -- I'm glad you like the portal design.  :)

You look like an interesting fella from your user page; we share a lot of the same interests. I've had Blade Runner on my watchlist since doing some cleanup there a while back, but I was hoping someone with a real knowledge of the movie would come along to give it more depth. Fond of the movie, but don't own it, so I haven't actually seen it in a long time. I like the other movies on your list too (although I enjoy Fight Club the book almost more than the movie.) Wow, you've done a lot of good work since joining us in October; I look forward to seeing more of it in the future! Best wishes... --Catherine\talk 04:49, 30 Jan 2005 (UTC)

You wrote: Okay, what did I miss out on?

I made a joke template based on the tfd one, reading something like:

The deceased

That's sort of a curious idea. While we do keep track of Missing Wikipedians a little bit, I haven't seen anybody mention any actual deaths. In most cases, I would think we're unlikely to find out about it. So I don't know what information you would get, or why any policy would be needed. --Michael Snow 23:49, 18 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Frontline

Thanks for adding all that information for the Frontline reports!! Did you come up with it all on your own? james waters 22:58, 20 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Vaoverland

Thanks for the heads-up on the email address. I have removed it as I don't get email from other WP users anyway. Mark in Richmond. Vaoverland 09:05, Feb 27, 2005 (UTC)

Kibbutz

I’ve noticed that you’ve made a few edits and additions to the kibbutz article. I was wondering if you would like to vote on the article becoming a Featured Article. For some reason, NO ONE votes either way on kibbutz (only 4 votes last time). I don’t know why.

The nomination is right here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Featured_article_candidates/Kibbutz Dinopup 20:00, 26 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Help get Gowanus Canal featured

Hey man. Your vote and peer-review comments would be most appreciated in my attempts to get the Gowanus Canal article featured. Thanks! --Howrealisreal 17:39, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)

thanks!

Thank you for supporting my recent RFA! I'll do my best as an admin. By the way, I also enjoyed that Julian Jaynes book: I'm not certain he's right, but at times he's very convincing, and it's stuck in my mind for years. Well my inner Gods tell me it's time to leave a few more thank you notes. Happy editing! Antandrus 02:48, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Fair use

Are you sure you meant to tag your own image as "fair use"? Fair use only makes sense as some sort of excuse if we can't get permission from the copyright owner. If you created the image, you are the copyright owner and you can actually give us a license to use your picture, which among other things allows the use of the image in other language WPs where fair use is not an established concept. Can I ask you to put some license on the Oriental poppy image? Rl 17:56, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)

ST:TNG

FYI, it would appear Cyberia23 will no longer be editing (at least for ST). I guess he's not much for collaboration with others on the ST stuff...or something. Anyway, see my talk page for the discussion if you care. Just dropping a note since you're the only regular editor of List of Star Trek: TNG episodes. Cburnett 06:22, Apr 12, 2005 (UTC)
