Virginia C. Andrews

Cleo Virginia Andrews (6 June 1923 – 19 December 1986), better known as V. C. Andrews or Virginia C. Andrews is an American author. Most of her novels are Gothic horrors and family sagas, usually consisting of a series of five books, where the last book is a prequel explaining much of the events of the series. Most of her stories evolve around family secrets and forbidden love, and they often include a rags-to-riches story. Her novels are translated in many foreign languages including: French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, Turkish, and Hebrew.

She died of breast cancer.

Her novels were so successful that after her death her estate hired a ghost writer, Andrew Neiderman, to write more stories that were published under her name. Fans usually agree that Andrews' original work is better than Neiderman's novels, although Neiderman's stories are said to be based on Andrews' original ideas.
