Virginia gubernatorial election, 2005
The Virginia gubernatorial election of 2005 is a race for the Governor of Virginia. It will be held on November 8, 2005. Virginia is the only state in the United States to prohibit governors to serve successive terms, and the popular incumbent, Mark R. Warner, cannot run for reelection.
Democrats
- Lieutenant Governor, former Richmond Mayor Tim Kaine
Republicans
- Former Attorney General Jerry Kilgore, who resigned in February 2005 to campaign full-time.
Outlook
The polls show that Kilgore is in the lead.
