Volusianus

Gaius Vibius Volusianus (d. August, 253) was a Roman emperor (251 - 253).

He was son to Gaius Vibius Trebonianus Gallus by his wife Afinia Gemina Baebiana. He is known to have a sister, Vibia Galla.

The death of Decius in late June, 251 led to Trebonianus Gallus' elevation to Augustus. Volusianus was named Caesar. He gained an addoptive brother in the person of youthfull co-ruler Hostilian. However the later was among the casualties of an epidemic in July, 251. Volusianus replaced him as Augustus and co-ruler.

Father and son were both killed in A.D. 253 by mutinous troops who supported another contender for the throne, Aemilianus.

Saint Volusianus was bishop of Tours from 491 to 498. He was deprived of his see by the Visigoths, exiled to Toulouse, and perhaps martyred.

His feast day is January 18. He is the patron saint of Foix.
