Wake Medical Center

Wake Medical Center, formerly Wake Memorial Hospital, is the major hospital serving Raleigh, North Carolina and surrounding areas. It has a few branch locations, WakeMed Cary Hospital, Northern Wake Hospital, and several other small clinics. The hospital and all of its affiliates are part of a non-profit organization. It is commonly referred to as WakeMed.

While it originally served the Raleigh area under charter from the state legislature, it no longer serves that purpose.

The hospital system has over 700 beds, and the main campus, on New Bern Avenue, has an operating room suite with 22 operating rooms, arranged in 5 clusters. General Surgery, Urology, Cardiology, Neurology, Vascular Surgery, Orthopaedics, ENT, Gynecology, and Plastics are the surgical services provided. The nearest transplant center is at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

From 1981 until 2003, Raymond Champ was the hospital's President and CEO.
