War (disambiguation)

War, in addition to its main meaning, can refer to several things:

  • War, a card game.
  • War, musical group.
  • War, West Virginia, a West Virginia town.
  • War, an album of U2 band.
  • War is also one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
  • War can be also mean a forceful campaign, as in "War on poverty in the US"
  • War has sometimes in history used for armed conflicts, even when the number of people fighting are relatively few, for example when the armed forces have exceptional fighting prowess.
  • War can formally be declared without any fighting ever breaking out. One example the war between Sweden and San Marino between 1648-1996. San Marino formally declared war on Sweden, the declaration letter was carefully filed and almost forgotten. During all this time, a formal state of war still existed between the two, but not a single hostile act was ever carried out apart from the formal declaration.
  • War is distinguished from Civil War although there can sometimes be differences in opinion as to whether a certain conflict is one or the other.
  • War a song by Edwin Starr.
