Introduction
The Web Cadet Corps is an online organisation independent of any government or corporation that lists as it's aims the following: 1. To promote learning and understanding of the world's military forces as well as useful general and specialist knowledge. 2. To promote self-discipline, loyalty, leadership, comradeship and a sense of pride in achievement. 3. To meet and make new friends from all around the world with common interests.
The Web Cadet Corps actively recruits people from all over the world (Members have joined from countries like Canada, UK, USA, Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, Germany, The Netherlands and New Zealand) to be a part of this free and inviting society where one can gain new friends as well as work to attain ranks and knowledge.
The Web Cadet Corps History
The Web Cadet Corps (Hitherto referred to as the WCC) was created in 1996 by Mark Blake to complement the training he received in the UK Sea Cadet Program. At the time it consisted only of a Navy section that had recruits from Mr. Blake's surrounding area involved. This form of the WCC was involved in a bitter feud with an American counterpart and the WCC was shut down by the USNSCC (United States Navy Sea Cadet Corps) online group.
The WCC in it's present form was reincarnated by Caroline Proctor a year later. She recreated the original Corps and officially opened the first section of the WCC, Training Ship Phoenix which recruited websurfers with interest in the Naval aspect of cadet training. Ms. Proctor along with her staff at the time created unique training programs to teach the WCC members about Naval and Military disciplines.
From this point the WCC expanded exponentially in numbers and added many more sections and new features. Originally the WCC was intended to be based solely on the Naval side of things, the new WCC had created sections for the Air Force, Army, Marines, Coast Guard and Space (and, yes, they ARE called "Space Cadets").
These 6 sections work together with the 6 major departments (Logistics, Operations, Training, Administration, Entertainment, Maintenance) to keep the whole operation moving efficiently.
Infrastructure
The WCC is commanded by a Senior Officer who is elected by the population to the post of Commandant where he/she appoints the second in command after attaining office, known as the Deputy Commandant.
From there, three major Departments oversee the workings of the Corps.
Operations is the Department responsible for overseeing the Units (Navy, Air Force, Army, Marines, Coast Guard, Space) and is headed by the Operations Officer.
Logistics is responsible for overseeing the other Departments (Maintenance, Administration, Entertainment) and is commanded by the Logistics Officer.
Training is responsible for maintaining an efficient training program for all members and to ensure that overall training is effective and engaging. The Department is commanded by the Training Officer.
Conclusion
While all that may seem confusing or imposing, it is most definitely not when you get in the organisation. As mentioned earlier, the WCC holds as one of it's aims to meet and make new friends from all over the world. I can assure you that this is a very worthwhile experience and the pursuit of ranks and awards is always a fulfilling task.
So, visit the WCC and try. What do you have to lose?
