Wedding soup
Wedding soup is a soup originating in Rome, Italy, and especially popular in parts of the northeastern United States. It consists of green vegetables (usually cabbage, lettuce, and/or spinach) and meats (usually meatballs and/or sausage) in a clear broth. Wedding soup sometimes contains pasta, noodles, or lentils.
The term "wedding soup" is a mistranslation of the Italian minestra maritata, which is a reference to the fact that green vegetables and meats go well together.
