Wermelandia

Wermelandia, or Värmland, is a historical province or landskap in the west of middle Sweden. It borders to Westrogothia, Dalia, Dalecarlia, Westmannia and Nericia. It is also bounded by Norway in the east.


Population

The population of Wermelandia is 312,966 as of 2004. It distrubutes over three counties as follows:

Wermelandia has virtually the same boundaries as Värmland County. The main exception is a smaller part to the south east which belongs to the Örebro County.

Eastern Wermelandia traditionally belongs to the mining district of Bergslagen.

Wermelandia was historically divided into chartered cities and districts. One district formed part of Bergslagen and was a mountain district, and all the other districts were hundreds.

Heraldry

Arms granted in 1560, and revised in 1567 to the current one, with later minor revisions. The arms is represented with a dukal coronet. Blazon: "Argent, an Eagle displayed Azure beaked, langued and membered Gules."

Dukes of Wermelandia

Since 1772, Swedish Princes have been created Dukes of various provinces. This is solely a nominal title.
