Wettin, Saxony-Anhalt

Wettin is the name of a town in the kreis (district) of Saalkreis in the Bundesland of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. It lies on the River Saale.

Wettin is the original home of the Wettin dynasty, which ruled Saxony for 800 years, were kings of Poland for a while and from which Prince Albert, husband of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom, was descended.

Wettin is a little town with about 3000 Inhabitants. In Mücheln (a small village, now part of Wettin) there is an old Church from the Order of the Knights Templar, which is still active.

The Wettin Burggymnasium (high school) is famous for its art, where people with talent in art can take art to high-school graduation level (Abitur).
