Whittier College

Whittier College is a private Quaker college in Whittier, California. The liberal arts school was founded in 1887 by members of the Religious Society of Friends, who named it after Quaker poet John Greenleaf Whittier.

As of 2003, the school boasts 1,535 enrolled students.

The school has four local fraternities, The Franklin Society, The Lancer Society , The Orthogonian Society, and the William Penn Society, as well as five local sororities: The Palmer Society, The Ionian Society, The Metaphonian Society, The Thalian Society, and The Athenian Society.

Whittier College is also notorious for an electronic bugging device found in the school newspaper's office. This event quickly made headlines on the Drudge Report and many outlets snickered at its Nixonesque quality.

Its student newspaper, The Quaker Campus, is known for its anti-student government slant and plethora of collegiate newspaper awards.
