William Bentinck, 4th Duke of Portland

William Henry Cavendish Cavendish-Scott-Bentinck, 4th Duke of Portland (24 June 1768 - 27 March 1854) was a British politician who served in various positions in the governments of George Canning and Lord Goderich.

On 4 August 1795 in London, the 4th Duke married Henrietta Scott, daughter of John Scott and his wife Margaret, née Dundas, and obtained Royal Licence took the name "Scott" in addition to that of Bentinck.

  • William Henry Cavendish Bentinck, styled Marquess of Titchfield from birth 1768 to marriage 1795.
  • William Henry Cavendish Scott-Bentinck, styled Marquess of Titchfield from marriage 1796 to Royal Licence obtained by his father in 1801 for addition of Cavendish to his children's surname (his father had assumed the name of Cavendish-Bentinck under the will of his maternal grandmother, Margaret (née Cavendish), the Countess of Oxford and Mortimer, in 1755)
  • William Henry Cavendish Cavendish-Scott-Bentinck, styled Marquess of Titchfield from 1801 to 1809, his accession to the Dukedom
  • William Henry Cavendish, Duke of Portland from 1809- death 1854.
