Winn-Dixie supermarket in Jacksonville, Florida

Winn-Dixie is a supermarket chain based in Jacksonville, Florida which has stores throughout the south-eastern United States. They are known as "The Beef People", though this slogan has seen decreased usage recently. They are also known for their private label Chek brand soft drinks, which are produced in over 20 different flavors plus diet and caffeine-free varieties — one of the widest assortments anywhere.

In 2002, Winn-Dixie introduced the Reward Card System, which customers could use to get store discounts and to rack up points for shopper bonuses.

In April 2004 Winn-Dixie announced the closure of 156 stores, including all 111 stores located in the midwest. The company had been hit hard by competition, especially from Publix and Wal-Mart.

Winn-Dixie also decided in to convert more than 40 of its Atlanta area Winn-Dixie and Winn-Dixie Market Place stores into their lower-priced, bare bones Save Rite brand (of which there were only 11 previously, scattered throughout Winn-Dixie's marketing domain). This was done as a last-ditch effort to save its remaining stores in the highly competitive market, which has already seen the bankruptcy of several other grocery chains including Harris Teeter, Cub Foods, A&P, and Bruno's .

Winn-Dixie trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol WIN and is listed in the S&P 500. In 2003 the company had the worst-performing stock on that list.

In 2005, it filed for bankruptcy in New York city on February 22.

The early 2005 movie Because of Winn-Dixie is about a dog found at a Winn-Dixie store.
