Yahata Higashi-ku, Kitakyushu

A ward in Kitakyushu. Space World amusement park is here. It is popular with tour groups from Taiwan and Korea. Residents have a very high average age, one of the highest in Japan.
Kawachi Reservoir is a pleasant place to walk around, despite the noisy motor bikes who treat the road on the North side as a private race track. The reservoir was built to provide cooling water for the Yahata steelworks in the 1920s. When the dam was built it was the largest in Asia.
