Yanyuwa language

The Yanyuwa language is spoken by the people of the same name around the settlement of Borroloola (Yanyuwa burrulula) in the Northern Territory, Australia.

Yanyuwa, like many Australian Aboriginal languages, is a complex agglutinative language whose grammar is pervaded by a set of noun classes, whose agreements are complicated and numerous.

Yanyuwa is one of the most critically endangered of Australian languages, with just four native speakers remaining. Despite this, the anthropologist John Bradley (anthropologist) , a white who is a fully initiated member of the Yanyuwa, has produced an enormous dictionary and grammar of the language along with a cultural atlas in collaboration with the members of his adoptive tribe, so Yanyuwa's impending extinction may not be permanent.
