Yelabuga

Yelabuga (Tatar: Alabuğa/Алабуга, Russian: Елабуга) is a town in Tatarstan. It is located on the Kama River. Population: 67,500 (2000).

The first urban settlement appeared in 11th century as Volga Bulgarian border castle. Later it was throwed, and now remaints of castle known as Şaytan qalası (Shaytan's castle).

In the second half of the 16th century Russian village was founded at this place. It is best known for its oil industry and as a birthplace of an painter Ivan Shishkin.

Yelabuga is also place where Marina Tsvetayeva dead.

In 1990s General Motors' assemble shop worked.
