York South—Weston
York South—Weston is a federal and Ontario riding or electoral district in the west-end of Toronto. The riding is of largely working class composition and has a significant Italian-Canadian population. The riding is made up largely of the old City of York as well as a southwestern portion of the old city of North York as well as parts of the old city of Toronto north of High Park. Created in 1976, it combined the old riding of York South with parts of neighbouring ridings.
The provincial riding of York South-Weston was created prior to the 1999 Ontario election when the government reduced the number of provincial ridings and gave them the same boundaries as federal ridings.
The current federal Member of Parliament for the riding is Liberal Alan Tonks while its current MPP in the Ontario legislature is Ontario Liberal Party member Joe Cordiano.
