Zork calendar

In the Zork series of interactive fiction computer games, created by Infocom and Activision, the Zork calendar is the system for assigning calendar dates to days in the fictional Zork timeline of the Great Underground Empire, formerly known as the Kingdom of Quendor.

Dating System

Years in the Zork (or "Quendorian") calendar are usually written in "GUE" (Great Underground Empire). GUE counts forward from the year 0 GUE, in which Quendor was created, but is often only used for dates after and including 770 GUE, in which Quendor was renamed "The Great Underground Empire".

Prior to the use of the term "GUE", dates after the year 0 were marked "AE" (After Entharion), referring to the year 0, in which Entharion the Wise began his reign. Years before this are marked "BE" (Before Entharion) and count backwards.

Apparently this system of dating was used even before the year 0, as people counted down towards this year, anticipating some historic event.

Days of the Week

There are seven days in the Quendorian Week:

  • Sand Day
  • Mud Day
  • Grues Day
  • Wands Day
  • Birthday
  • Frob DayTR
  • Starday

Months of the Year

There are twelve months in the Quendorian Year:

  • Estuary
  • FrobuaryTR (originally "Fidooshiary" before 817)
  • Arch
  • Oracle
  • Mage
  • Jam
  • Jelly
  • Augur
  • Suspendur
  • Ottobur
