Zushakon
Zushakon, also known as Zuchequon (the most common spelling) or Zul-Che-Quon, is a Great Old One, son of Ubbo-Sathla through binary fission, although other sources consider him the progeny of Shub-Niggurath and Hastur. He was invented by Henry Kuttner and first appeared in his story Bells of Hell. He was a god of death to the Mutsune tribe of California. He can be summoned through the ringing of 3 specially consecrated bells. His imminent arrival is announced by a rapid darkening and chilling down of the surrounding environment and an irritation of the eyes so severe that the affected persons or animals would literally try to gouge out their own eyes, and, quite possibly, a flapping sound like that of very large wings which steadily increase in volume. Upon his arrival the surrounding shadows will darken, thicken, swirl and finally clot into his final shape. It is not known whether the clot of darkness that forms upon his arrival is a gateway for his entry or whether it is his actual form. He has an intense hatred of light and will slay anyone who exposes one of his sacred artifacts to it. According to the famed occult detective Doctor Anton Zarnak , who personally witnessed Zushakon's arrival when unsuccessfully trying to exorcise him from attacking a client, Zushakon is an earth elemental and can be repelled by bright lights or by summoning the fire god Cthugha. The unfortunate victim, who died in the struggle, had dug open a barrow that contained the remains of a Mutsune shaman, recovering an obsidian tablet inscribed with some words of warning admonishing all who exposed it that they will die for it in an ancient, now-extinct script as well as a carving of a hooded, possibly winged humanoid figure surrounded by lesser toad-like beings prostrate in worship before it. It is very likely that this winged figure is Zushakon himself. Zushakon may also return during the first earthquake or solar eclipse after an earlier successful summoning of him.
