| This science fair project was done to investigate the effects of living at high altitudes and training at low altitudes, on an athlete’s performance. The trial was conducted on long-distance runners. | ||

| 1. For this science fair project, the independent variable is where the athletes reside during the experiment, i.e. at high altitude or at sea level. The dependent variable is the time taken by the runners to complete the 5 km run. The time taken to complete the 5 km run is measured with a stopwatch. The constants (control variables) are the age of the participants, weather conditions and the distance of the cross country route. 2.
