Does Bat Type Affect Ball Distance?

Hard
Does Bat Type Affect Ball Distance? | Science Fair Projects | STEM Projects
Ever wondered if the type of bat you use affects how far the ball travels? In this science project, you'll find out if an aluminum bat and a wooden bat, when swung at the same speed, produce the same ball distance.

Hypothesis

The hypothesis is that the distance traveled by the ball will be the same if an aluminum bat and a wooden bat is swung at the same speed.

Method & Materials

You will fix the aluminum baseball bat on a metal stand, position the baseball pitcher about 2 meters away from the bat, and then dispense the balls from the ball pitcher. The distance traveled by the ball is measured using a measuring tape. The experiment is repeated using the wooden bat and all measurements are recorded.
You will need a metal stand to hold the baseball bat, a baseball pitching machine, a wooden baseball bat, an aluminum baseball bat, two dozen baseball balls, a measuring tape, and an assistant.

Results

The results show that the distance traveled by the ball was the same, regardless of whether an aluminum bat or wooden bat was used. This proves that the hypothesis is true.

Why do this project?

This science project is interesting because it tests a common assumption about baseball bats - that wooden bats hit the ball further than aluminum bats.

Also Consider

Variations of this science project include comparing different brands of wooden and aluminum bats, and testing the distance traveled for different speed settings on the machine.
