Chocolate Asphalt

Easy
Chocolate Asphalt | Science Fair Projects | STEM Projects
Have you ever seen and smelled roads being paved? This project is a more pleasant way to introduce basic engineering principles by making asphalt cookies with chocolate.

Hypothesis

The hypothesis is that asphalt cookies made with chocolate and other ingredients will simulate the process of making asphalt pavement.

Method & Materials

You will mix together a variety of construction materials, measure and pour chocolate asphalt into the mixture, stir until all particles are coated, roll out the mixture, and observe the results.
You will need a large container, a crockpot, large spoon, steep sided bowls, stirring spoons, 16 oz. sealed cans, measuring cups, wax paper, water, and paper towels.

Results

After the students mixed the ingredients, poured the chocolate asphalt, stirred, and rolled out the mixture, they were able to observe the similarities between making cookies and preparing pavement.

Why do this project?

This science project is interesting and unique because it allows students to explore the process of making asphalt pavement in a fun and creative way.

Also Consider

Experiment variations to consider include using different types of nuts and other ingredients, or using different types of chocolate.
