Albedo
Albedo is how much light a surface bounces back instead of soaking in as heat.
Think of it this way
A white ceramic bowl and a black ceramic bowl sit side by side on a table. Pour warm water into both, then set them in sunlight. The black bowl heats up fast because it soaks in the light. The white bowl stays cooler because it bounces the light back out.
Explaining albedo by grade level
Dark things get hot in the sun. Light things stay cooler. That is because light colors bounce more sun rays back. Dark colors soak up the rays and turn them into heat.
