Binary Number System
Binary Number System is a way of writing any number using only two digits: zero and one.
Think of it this way
Each egg slot in a muffin tin holds either an egg or stays empty. You fill each slot with one egg or leave it bare. A pattern of filled and empty slots across the tin rows makes a code. Each code stands for a different number.
Explaining binary number system by grade level
Think of a row of light switches. Each switch can only be on or off. Now give each switch a value, like 1, 2, 4, or 8. You add up the values of the switches that are on. That is how binary works.
