Convergent Evolution
Convergent evolution is when unrelated animals grow similar body parts from living in the same kind of place.
Think of it this way
Two cooks in different kitchens both need to strain hot liquid. One grabs a round mesh bowl. The other grabs a flat mesh tray. Both tools have small holes that let liquid pass and keep solids back.
Explaining convergent evolution by grade level
Bears and seals do not come from the same family. But both have thick fur and layers of fat to stay warm. They both live in cold places, so their bodies changed in the same way over time. Similar homes led to similar body parts.
