Dietary Fat

Dietary Fat is the fat found in food that gives your body stored energy and helps it take in key nutrients.

Think of it this way

A jar of salad dressing has two clear layers: oil on top and water on the bottom. The oil layer is the fat. Your body saves it for later, like fuel in a tank. Some vitamins, like A and D, dissolve into that oil layer. Without the fat, those vitamins stay trapped in the water and your body cannot use them.

Explaining dietary fat by grade level

Some foods feel greasy or oily when you touch them. That grease is fat, and your body uses it for fuel. Low-fat foods have the fat taken out, which can change the taste. In a taste test, most people can tell which food has less fat.
