Displacement
Displacement is the amount of water an object pushes out of the way when placed in it.
Think of it this way
When you drop ice cubes into a full glass of water, some water spills over the edge. The ice takes up space, and the water has nowhere else to go. The amount that spills out equals the volume of the ice. That spilled water is the displacement.
Explaining displacement by grade level
Put a toy boat in a full tub. Water spills over the side. The boat pushed that water away. A big boat pushes more water out than a small one.
