El Nino
El Nino is a warm ocean current that changes weather all over the world.
Think of it this way
A large pot of water sits on a stove. Most of the time, cool water stays near one end and warm water pools at the other. When the burner heats up too much, the warm water spreads out and covers the whole surface. This warm layer changes how steam rises and where it flows across the kitchen.
Explaining el nino by grade level
The ocean has warm spots and cool spots. Sometimes warm water moves to a new place. This shifts the wind and rain. That change can bring storms or dry days far away.
