Food Deserts
Food Deserts is a term for areas where people lack easy access to fresh, healthy food.
Think of it this way
Your kitchen table has snacks spread across it. Some spots have many bowls of fruit, nuts, and crackers close together. Other spots have nothing within reach. A person sitting far from the food must go much farther just to eat well.
Explaining food deserts by grade level
Some towns do not have a store that sells fresh fruits or greens. People there may have to drive a long way just to buy good food. When the store is too far, many eat what is close by. That means less healthy meals each day.
