Hydroelectric Power
Hydroelectric power is energy made by moving water that spins a wheel to create electricity.
Think of it this way
Water rushing out of a tap spins a small pinwheel held underneath it. The moving water pushes the blades, and the blades turn. In a dam, falling water does the same job — it spins a big wheel called a turbine. The spinning turbine drives a machine that makes electricity.
Explaining hydroelectric power by grade level
Think about water pouring from a tall height. The falling water pushes hard and can spin a wheel. That spinning wheel makes power for lights and homes. The higher the water starts, the harder it pushes and the more power you get.
