Mineral Identification
Mineral Identification is figuring out what type of rock or mineral you have by testing how it looks, feels, and reacts.
Think of it this way
Sorting spices on a kitchen tray works like mineral identification. You check the color of each jar, smell its contents, and feel how coarse the grains are. Each test narrows down which spice sits in the jar. Together, the tests give you a clear answer.
Explaining mineral identification by grade level
Pick up a rock and scratch it on a plate. Some rocks leave a white line. Some leave a dark line. The color of that line is one clue to what your rock is made of. You can also drop vinegar on a rock. If it fizzes, the rock has a certain mineral inside.
