Momentum
Momentum is how hard it is to stop something that is already moving.
Think of it this way
A heavy pot of soup sliding across the counter is hard to stop. A light empty cup sliding at the same speed is easy to stop. The pot has more momentum because it has more mass. Push the empty cup faster, and now it takes more force to stop it too.
Explaining momentum by grade level
Roll a heavy ball and a light ball at the same speed. The heavy ball is harder to stop. It pushes things farther when it hits them. That is because it has more momentum. Heavier things and faster things have more momentum.
