Narrative Memory

Narrative memory is how your brain recalls things better when you link them to a story.

Think of it this way

A recipe card sits inside a box along with the bowl, spoon, and jar you used. When you reach for that card later, your hand touches the same bowl and jar. Each object pulls the next step back into your mind. The story of that baking day travels with each item in the box.

Explaining narrative memory by grade level

Think about a list of words you need to remember. It can be hard to keep them all in your head. But if you make up a short story using those words, they stick. Your brain holds on to stories much better than loose facts.
