Synthetic Fibers

Synthetic fibers are threads made from chemicals, not from plants or animals, used in clothes and ropes.

Think of it this way

Flour, sugar, and salt are all white powders, but each comes from a different source. Flour comes from wheat, sugar from cane, and salt from the ground. Baking powder is different — it is mixed from chemicals, not grown in a field. Synthetic fibers work the same way: they are made from chemicals, not pulled from plants like cotton or from animals like wool.

Explaining synthetic fibers by grade level

Some thread is made by people in labs. It does not come from a sheep or a plant. You can test how strong this thread is. Try hanging a weight on nylon thread to see how much it can hold.
