Territorial Behavior
Territorial Behavior is how animals claim and guard a space to keep other animals away from their food or shelter.
Think of it this way
A kitchen counter has a tray of food in the middle with a square of tape around it. Any cup or plate pushed inside the tape gets pushed right back out. The taped zone is like a claimed space with a clear edge. Animals guard their territory the same way, keeping others out of the area around their food or shelter.
Explaining territorial behavior by grade level
When birds sit on a wire, they leave gaps between each other. Bigger birds like crows sit farther apart. Smaller birds like sparrows sit closer. Each bird keeps its own space, and they move away if another bird gets too close.
