Human Behavior Science Fair Project

Color Popularity in Daily Life

Medium
Color Popularity in Daily Life | Science Fair Projects | STEM Projects
Do people pick the same colors for their cars and clothes as their stated favorite color? You run three surveys. First you record the colors of at least 30 cars. Then you note the main clothing color worn by people you observe. Finally you ask 30 people to name their favorite color. You compare the totals across all three surveys. The color with the smallest gap between preference and real-world choice shows the strongest match.

Hypothesis

The hypothesis is that colors affect us emotionally, and this can be demonstrated in our daily life experiences.

Method & Materials

You will collect data on the popularity of individual colors and the color preferences of individuals. You will observe cars and clothes on a busy street, and ask people what their favorite color is.
You will need color charts and a survey.

Results

The data collected from the car and cloths surveys compared with the results from the favorite color survey showed that the color most commonly seen in cars and cloths was the same as people's favorite color. This observation stands out as an interesting result.

Why do this project?

This science project is interesting and unique because it explores the connection between colors and emotions, which is something that is often overlooked.

Also Consider

Variations of this experiment could include surveying people's favorite colors in different locations, or surveying people's favorite colors in different age groups.
