Then God said, "Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it according to their various kinds."
And it was so. Genesis 1:11

Problem to be Solved:

In which condition will roots grow best?

Hypothesis:

The roots with the plant hormone Rootone under the greenhouse effect will grow the fastest because the Rootone is supposed to help roots grow quickly, and the greenhouse effect will keep the plants warm and moist.

Procedure:

1] Get metal clothes hangers and twist them into a support to hold the cellophane over one of the pots to act as a greenhouse.
2] Put loose soil in each of two pots. Loose soil is made of 1-part sand and 4-parts a mixture of sterilized soils.
3] Gather eight different plant cuttings from each of four types of plants: Coriander, Marigold, Germander and Pineapple Sage.
4] Dip four of each cutting into the Rootone.
5] Plant half of the cuttings into one pot of soil and the other half into the other pot of soil.
6] Take the other four of each cutting and plant half of the cuttings into one pot of soil and the other half into the other pot of soil. These cuttings were not dipped in Rootone.
7] Cover one of the pots with cellophane wrap over the coat hanger wire support.
8] Record the temperature and humidity for each pot of plants each day.
9] After 8-10 days pop each plant out of the soil and measure the longest root on each cutting. Record measured data in the logbook. Replant the cuttings in the pots.
10] Check and measure root lengths every seven days.

Results:
Root growth from first to last week(centimeters)
Rootone With Greenhouse Effect No Rootone With Greenhouse Effect Rootone Without Greenhouse Effect No Rootone Without Greenhouse Effect
Coriander 21.70 21.35 14.15 12.80
Pineapple Sage 25.90 19.80 18.10 15.90
Marigold 17.20 16.20 7.10 4.30
Germander Did not root. Did not root. Did not root. Did not root.

Conclusion:

The hypothesis that the roots grown with the greenhouse effect and Rootone would grow fastest was correct. However, the greenhouse effect had a greater impact for growing roots than the Rootone because the greenhouse effect traps and holds heat. The greenhouse effect had healthier-looking plants, and the roots grew much faster with and without Rootone than the plants without the greenhouse effect. One unanswered question is: Why were the stems of the Corianders that were under the greenhouse effect redder than the ones that were not under the greenhouse effect?

Biblical Application:

Then God said, "Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it according to their various kinds."
And it was so. Then God said, "I will give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit in it. They will be yours for food." Genesis 1:11, 29

This verse means that God created many different kinds of plants. He gave them to us so we can eat them for food. In order to have plants, we need to take care of them. In my experiment I wanted to know how roots could grow the fastest and how to use the resources God has given us in the best way.
