Bacterial Transformation
Bacterial Transformation is when bacteria pick up new DNA and gain abilities they did not have before.
Think of it this way
A jar of plain flour sits on the counter. It cannot make bread rise on its own. You open a small packet of baking powder and mix it in. Now the flour can do something new — it can make dough puff up and rise.
Explaining bacterial transformation by grade level
Bacteria are tiny living things too small to see. Sometimes they take in new bits called DNA. The new DNA can teach them new tricks. Some bacteria even learn to glow in the dark this way.
