Flood Protection
Flood protection is the use of walls, bags, or raised ground to keep water out of homes and towns.
Think of it this way
A tall bowl sits in the middle of a tray. Water poured onto the tray fills around the bowl but stays outside it. The bowl's walls keep the inside dry. Raised edges on the tray hold back water and protect the space inside.
Explaining flood protection by grade level
When rain fills up a river, water can flow where we do not want it. Sand bags make a wall to stop the water. Heavy sand works best. It stays in place when water pushes on it.
