Gram Staining
Gram staining is a way to dye germs so you can tell two main types apart.
Think of it this way
You have two types of sugar crystals — white and brown. You drop both into a bowl of clear syrup. The white crystals take up the color and turn yellow. The brown crystals keep their own color and stay dark.
Explaining gram staining by grade level
When you test which germ killer works best, you need to know what kind of germ you have. You put a dark dye on the germs and look at them up close. Some germs hold the dye and stay dark. Other germs lose the dye and turn pink.
