Insect Ecology

Insect Ecology is the study of how bugs live, eat, and relate to the world around them.

Think of it this way

Three trays sit on the kitchen counter with different scraps: bread crumbs, fruit peels, and dry seeds. Each tray draws a different mix of ants and flies. What shows up depends on the food, the moisture, and what else is nearby. Bugs in nature work the same way, shaped by the food and shelter around them.

Explaining insect ecology by grade level

Different trees hold different kinds of bugs. An oak tree might have beetles, while a pine tree has moths. You can count the bugs on each tree to see which tree they like best. The type of tree changes which bugs show up.
