Oil Spill Cleanup
Oil spill cleanup is the work of removing oil from water and shores after a spill.
Think of it this way
Oil floats on top of water the same way olive oil floats on top of water in a bowl. You cannot mix them together — the oil stays in a layer on top. To clean it up, you can press a paper towel flat on the surface. The towel soaks up the oil layer and lifts it away, leaving the water below.
Explaining oil spill cleanup by grade level
When oil spills into the sea, it floats on top. The oil makes the water bad for fish and birds. People use soft pads to soak up the oil. The pads pull the oil in, just like a towel soaks up a puddle.
